The U.S. and Mexico are certainly not strangers on the courts in 2011 Pan Am Games competition. The two nations contested three of four gold medal matches in the individual competition earlier in the tournament. In those matches, Mexico claimed two gold medals (women’s singles, women’s doubles) while the U.S. team took gold in men’s singles.
The U.S. racquetball team continued its dominance in the Pan American Games team competition Monday (Oct. 24) at the Revolucion Racquetball Complex, winning on both sides of the draw and sending both the men’s and women’s teams to gold-medal matches against Mexico Tuesday (Oct. 25).
As they did in the first round, Rhonda Rajsich (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Aimee Ruiz (Allentown, Pa.) got Team USA off to a good start with a decisive, 15-6, 15-8, win over Cintia Loma and Jenny Daza of Bolivia. Rajsich then returned to the court to play the deciding singles match against Loma, winning 15-4, 15-13 to earn the U.S. a spot in the gold-medal match.
